Texas toast sloppy

I remember as a kid having Sloppy Joe’s A Lot.
I’m pretty sure they were the canned variety.

Until I created this recipe for Sweetbay Supermarket , I always used the canned Sloppy Joe sauce too.

But let me tell you, making the sauce from scratch is not only WAY better than the can, but it is also really really easy!!!

And how fun is it to make those Sloppy Joe’s opened faced? And on some cheesy Texas Toast!!! Much better than a boring ol’ bun.

In my opinion, you just can’t serve these old school sandwiches without corn on the cob. That would be like having grilled cheese without tomato soup. It’s illegal I think.

What really put this meal over the top is that is feeds a family of four, takes less than 20 minutes to cook AND it’s only $10!

Ingredients:

  • 1lb lean ground beef
  • .25 cup chopped onion
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tsp tomato paste
  • ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2.5 tsp brown sugar
  • Salt & Pepper – to taste
  • 4 pieces of Green Mill Texas Toast
  • 1oz shredded cheddar cheese

Preparation:

  1. Start preheating oven at 375 for your Texas Toast
  2. On stovetop, medium heat, brown your ground beef, and onion. Drain once browned.
  3. Add in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and salt and pepper. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
  4. Cook over medium heat until mixture has thickened to your liking
  5. While thickening the sauce place Green Mill Texas Toast into preheated oven.
  6. Bake toast 5-6 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Place your Sloppy Joe Mixture on top of your golden-brown Texas Toast
  8. Top with ¼ oz of Cheddar Cheese on each piece of toast.
