
Mini Croque-Monsieur Appetizers
Golden, cheesy, and bite-sized — these French-inspired mini sandwiches are perfect for parties, brunches, or cozy gatherings.
🛒 Ingredients:
8 slices white bread
4 slices ham
100 g grated cheese (Gruyère or Emmental work great)
30 g butter
30 g flour
300 ml milk
Salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg
1 egg
1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
👨🍳 Instructions:
1️⃣ Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
2️⃣ Make the Béchamel Sauce
In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
Stir in the flour to form a roux.
Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until smooth and thickened.
Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg.
3️⃣ Assemble the Sandwiches
Spread béchamel sauce on 4 slices of bread.
Top each with a slice of ham and a sprinkle of grated cheese.
Cover with the remaining 4 slices of bread.
4️⃣ Brush with Egg Wash
Beat the egg with 1 tbsp milk.
Brush the tops of the sandwiches with the egg wash.
5️⃣ Bake
Place the sandwiches on a baking tray.
Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
6️⃣ Slice & Serve
Cut each sandwich into small triangles or quarters.
Serve warm as savory, melty appetizers.
